We’re really excited to have this new batch of 3A grade Spruce soundboards. There are currently 5 available, all cut from the same billet. They all display straight, consistent grain lines, are nicely quarter cut and have been kiln dried. They are supplied as pictured (bandsawn with one face dressed) to allow the individual luthier to dress to their desired thickness/dimension. The sizes and thicknesses listed are subject to minor variation – if you require a specific dimension, let us know.
nb. There is no standard for tonewood grading, please use your own eyes and inspect the pics. Generally we stock tonewood in A or B grade (C grade is considered defect/factory second) – these soundboards are A Grade. Unlike many suppliers that use A, AA & AAA, which we find to be very misleading (A grade is actually C/Defective Grade???), we figure our system makes more sense.
Sitka Spruce (picea sichensis)
The traditional choice of soundboard timber for many guitar manufacturers, “Sitka Spruce” has become the benchmark against which all other timbers are measured. It is found on the West Coast of North America from Northern California to Alaska.
